    IHEP Press Release

During the period of January 29th – February 2nd Measurements International and partner companies (MI China, MI CAL) were onsite at the Institute for High Energy Physics (IHEP) in Beijing, China for the follow-up visit on the successful installation of the MI DCCT 400 Amp system.

The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP), a Chinese academy of sciences research institute, is China’s biggest laboratory for the study of particle physics. They want to understand the universe better at the most fundamental level – from the smallest subatomic particles to the large-scale structure of the cosmos. They also want to use the knowledge and technology that comes from research for the good of humanity. As well as theoretical and experimental research into particle and astroparticle physics, they have a broad range of research in related fields such as accelerator technologies and nuclear analytical techniques. The Institute also provides beam facilities for researchers in other fields of study.

In industrial current measurements, the best measurement uncertainties in DC current measurements are reached using DC current transformers (DCCTs). DCCTs have the advantage that there is no warm-up period but are more capacitive and inductive than current shunts and so the reversal rate is fairly long to achieve the best accuracy. Several commercial DCCT devices are available on the market now with accuracies approaching 10-5. For the application of research and calibration of the DCCT, MIL supplies the model 6300 series of DCCT calibration systems where measurement uncertainties of less than a few ppm for DC currents from 1 A to 3 kA can be achieved.

“Measurements International (MI) has a long well-known history of supplying the top level International Laboratories such as CERN, and other high-level National Metrology Institutes, with the highest level of DCCT measurement equipment.  We are very proud IHEP selected MI as well,” said VP of Operations Ryan Brown, “When customers want and understand the need for the very best accuracy and uncertainty in DCCT measurement, they know to partner with MI.”
